Volvo Adds More Older Vehicle Models In Airbag Defect Recall
Auto company Volvo is issuing an updated nationwide recall covering more older vehicles due to fears that they might possess defective airbag components that may harm drivers and passengers.
2001-2007 XC70 And V70 Cars Included In Volvo Airbag Defect Recall
A few weeks ago, Volvo ended up announcing the recall of its s60 and s80 sedan models due to possible airbag deflation issues. The earlier recall included s60 sedans released from the years 2001 to 2009 and s80 sedans released from the years 2001 to 2006.
Now, the Swedish car manufacturer has included its XC70 and V70 automobiles released from 2001 to 2007 in the expanded product recall.
According to a report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA, Volvo feared that the abovementioned models’ airbag components may malfunction when launched during an unexpected vehicular accident or collision.
Recall: Older Volvo Vehicles’ Airbags May Malfunction Once Deployed
It is believed that the propellant used in the recalled vehicles may not function properly after some time. This may result in an uncontrolled explosion during an actual accident where the car’s airbag components are automatically activated.
The unexpectedly stronger explosions may cause smaller components contained in the airbag to fly out and hit the driver and other passengers inside the vehicle. Authorities fear that this may cause serious harm and even death. As of writing, there is a single passing that is directly related to the airbag issue.
Volvo will reach out to owners of the recalled vehicles via snail mail beginning late November. Affected individuals who own the abovementioned car models can bring their cars to a nearby Volvo dealership for a free airbag replacement.
Consider The Consumer will continue to post related vehicle defect recalls via our official communications channels. Stay tuned.
