Sunshine Mills Recall – Dog Food Under Microscope
Have you purchased any Sunshine Mills, Inc. dog food recently? If so, read on and see if the Sunshine Mills Recall concerns you.
Just recently, the Sunshine Mills, Inc. issued a voluntary recall because of the possibility of high levels of Aflatoxin in brands of dog food.
The FDA revealed that the company issued the recall last September 2. The recall includes the following types of dog food:
- Family Pet Meaty Cuts: Beef, Chicken & Cheese Flavors
- Heartland Farms Grilled Favorites: Beef, Chicken & Cheese Flavor
- Paws Happy Life Butcher’s Choice Dog Food
FDA explains that Aflatoxin is “a naturally occurring mold by-product from the growth of Aspergillus flavus and can be harmful to pets if consumed in significant quantities.”
After conducting a test on a single 4-pound bag of dog food, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry found out that there’s a potential for high levels of the by-product.
The owners of any pet that ingested the said brands and showed symptoms of illness such as:
- Reluctance to eat
- Yellowish tint in the eyes or gums
…should bring the pet to a veterinarian.
