“Foreign Matter” Contamination Results In Recall Of Sprite, Coca-Cola, and Minute Maid Drinks
Sprite, Coca-Cola, and Minute Maid beverages are being recalled owing to the presence of “undisclosed foreign matter.” The recalled products were distributed throughout the Southeast and joined a growing list of products recalled due to contamination amid the manufacturing process.
This recall may have created the most interest in soda since the introduction of New Coke. The Coca-Cola Company issued two recalls—one for 12-oz cans of Coke and Sprite and another for Minute Maid products.
Both recalls were announced due to the possibility of “foreign matter” being present in certain cans and cartons distributed throughout the country.
Sprite and Coke Recall
Sprite and Coca-Cola products were recalled in late November. Due to the soda’s long shelf life, it’s still worth checking the products. The cans were delivered throughout the Southeastern States, while the recall statement made no mention of specific states. It is applicable to the following products:
- Coca-Cola 12-pack Fridge Pack, 12-oz. cans; Date Codes “AUG 1522 WM B” and “AUG 1522 WM C”
- Sprite 12-pack Fridge Pack, 12-oz. cans; Date Code “AUG 1522 WM B”
Minute Maid Recall
On December 10, Coca-Cola announced the recall of Minute Maid products in the following states: Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The cartons could contain metal bolts or washers. The recall covers almost 7,000 cases; it includes the following drinks:
- Minute Maid Berry Punch, 59-fl. oz. (1.8-qt.) cartons; Date Codes “Jan0422 NP” and “Jan0522 NP;” Batch Numbers “0010323455” and “0010259344”
- Minute Maid Strawberry Lemonade, 59-fl. oz.(1.8-qt.) cartons; Date Code “Jan0322 NP;” Batch Number “0010259346”
- Minute Maid Fruit Punch, 59-fl. oz.(1.8-qt.) cartons; Date Code “JAN0522 NP;” Batch Number “0010323454”
What to Do with the Recalled Products
If you purchased any of the recalled Coca-Cola products, you should dispose of them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Under no circumstances should any of the aforementioned products be consumed.
