Newmar Recalls Wheelchair Lift Equipped Motorhomes

The Newmar Corporation has recalled 114 model year 2012-2017 Canyon Star wheelchair lift equipped motor homes that were manufactured between September 7, 2011, to September 6, 2016.

It is thought that incorrect bolts may have been used to install the wheelchair lift base, and can break unexpectedly allowing the lift to become loose and move freely. Due to this, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 404, “Platform Lift Installations.”

Unintentional movement of the wheelchair lift can cause injury to the lift occupant and/or the lift operator.

Newmar will notify owners, and Newmar service facilities will replace the wheelchair lift base mounting bolts, free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin December 12, 2016. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300.
