The issue was detected when FSIS conducted routine product testing and determined that it contained E. coli O157:H7.

- Coli O157:H7
According to the FSIS, E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially lethal strain of bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and abdominal cramps 2 to 8 days after infection. While most patients recover within a week, some develop hemolytic uremic syndrome, a kind of kidney failure.
This infection can affect anyone of any age but is most frequent in children under 5 and older adults. Consumers should be aware of symptoms such as paleness, easy bruising, and decreased urine.
Individuals who exhibit these symptoms should receive emergency medical care promptly, according to the FSIS.
Processors in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Nebraska received the products. The complete list of recalled beef products is available on the FSIS website.
