Greater Omaha Packing Co., Inc. Recall, 2021

On Thursday, the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall of 295,236 pounds of raw beef goods from the Greater Omaha Packing Company.

According to the recall, the affected products were produced on July 13 and delivered to processors in:

  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Minnesota, and
  • Nebraska

The issue was detected when FSIS conducted routine product testing and determined that it contained E. coli O157:H7.

The meat company stated that there had been no documented instances of adverse effects resulting from ingesting the items. However, anyone concerned about becoming ill as a result of consuming the meat should consult a doctor.

  • Coli O157:H7

According to the FSIS, E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially lethal strain of bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and abdominal cramps 2 to 8 days after infection. While most patients recover within a week, some develop hemolytic uremic syndrome, a kind of kidney failure.

This infection can affect anyone of any age but is most frequent in children under 5 and older adults. Consumers should be aware of symptoms such as paleness, easy bruising, and decreased urine.

Individuals who exhibit these symptoms should receive emergency medical care promptly, according to the FSIS.

Processors in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Nebraska received the products. The complete list of recalled beef products is available on the FSIS website.

Consumers, as well as members of the media with inquiries about the recall, should contact Angel Besta, Greater Omaha Packing’s Vice President of Technical Resources, at (402) 515-2727.
