GMC Power Steering Recall Affecting Over 60,000 Cars – 2015 Chevy Colorado & GMC Canyon Recall

The GMC Recall

General Motors Truck Company (GMC), an American automobile manufacturer, recalls over 60,000 vehicles due to a faulty power steering feature.

GMC has issued a recall for their vehicles due to an issue with power steering. The particular cars that will be recalled belong to the GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado models.

It is estimated that in total, around 60,678 units of the following car models will be recalled:

  • 2015 Chevy Colorado
  • 2015 GMC Canyon

The car recall was issued due to a problem with the power steering component, which can cause the feature to stop while the car is in use. Thus, it can increase the likelihood of accidents and car crashes.

Power Steering Issue

According to reports, the faulty power steering feature resulted from a defect with its electrical connection. This defect can cause the power steering system to abruptly stop while the car is in use or when the driver has just started running the vehicle.

The issue was reported to be more visible when driving at lower speeds, like parking their cars.

Car owners are advised to be attentive when using the affected car vehicles. They may see warning signs, such as a warning chime or warning light signals in the vehicle panel to alert them if there is an issue.

GM has released a statement saying that they have not yet received any reports related to injuries or accidents from the power steering issue. The company advises affected car owners to get their vehicles fixed by GM dealers.

Car Recall Process

GM declared that they would shoulder all costs for fixing the power steering issue. The affected vehicles will need to be brought to GM dealers responsible for fixing the problem. GM dealers will replace the faulty torque sensors free of charge.

The company has attested that it will start notifying affected customers on May 10, 2021.

Car owners who would like to check if their vehicles are included in the recall can check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website. They will just need to input their vehicle identification number.
