Kimberly-Clark, the company behind your ride or die Cottonelle Flushable Wipes (and CottonellePlus Flushable Wipes) have issued a recall of certain lots of its products because they were found out to be tainted by a rather dangerous contaminant that causes a lot of harm to those who use them.

Several complaints have made rounds around different social media platforms as consumers reported experiencing different discomforts and ailments after using either the Cottonelle Flushable Wipes or CottonellePlus Flushable Wipes, both of which are made by the Irving-based multinational corporation.

As Erin Shaak of ClassAction.org samples in their report, several customers have chosen to voice their negative experiences with using either of these products. One consumer thought they just had a stomach bug, whereas another said they experienced daily diarrhea for the entirety of a month. Fun!

Some others also shared that they experienced a severe itching sensation, and one person even claimed that they have gotten so sick that they lost tremendous amounts of weight and needed to be rushed to the hospital. In fact, that same person underwent emergency surgery when arriving at the ER.

Now, we ask ourselves what caused all of this mayhem? Well, we can pinpoint it to the bacteria known as Pluralibacter gergoviae or just P. gergoviae

P. gergoviae is a very harmful and deadly microorganism that can cause a series of ailments and several forms of infections. These infections may include, but are not limited to, infections of the lower respiratory tract, skin infections, and even urinary tract infections.

Worse, you may not even know that you are infected by it for most infections caused by P. gergoviae is extremely hard to diagnose and cure. It is even reported that these bacteria are resistant to antibiotics, too.

All in all, we just urge all consumers to be careful of what they’re buying, always know what products they’re using, and, of course, always stay in the know! Be careful out there, folks.
