Bauer Forced Air Propane Portable Heaters Recall 2021 – Gas Leakage & Fire Hazards From Harbor Freight…

Harbor Freight Tools Recalls Bauer Portable Heaters Due to Risks of Fire

A portable heater from Harbor Freight Tools — Bauer — is being recalled following one fire and more than a handful of reports of gas leakage.

Reported Incidents: 13 Gas Leaks, 1 Fire

A recall issued on September 16 by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) revealed that the company was recalling approximately 19,000 units of its Bauer Forced Air Propane Portable Heaters because of a potential fire hazard.

There have been 13 instances of propane gas leakage thus far, including one incident of a fire, according to the company. There have been no reported injuries.

Cause of the Leak

According to the manufacturer, the problem is that the fitting located at the back of the Bauer Forced Air Propane heaters can become too loose, allowing the heater to spew propane gas and present a fire hazard.

Consumers are therefore advised to discontinue the use of the product and to attempt to verify it themselves, using a soapy water leak test, as detailed in these Harbor Freight guidelines, to ensure that the fitting at the back of the unit is not leaking.

To ensure that all known purchasers receive revised instructions for use, Harbor Freight is contacting them personally. The updated instructions include thorough instructions about how to inspect and also tighten the fittings on the heaters if needed, using a wrench that was included with the product.

According to the recall, if the gas leak persists after self-inspection and correct tightening, Harbor Freight Tools must be called for further instructions.

Moreover, the heater was sold for approximately $100 at Harbor Freight Tools retail stores nationwide and online via www.harborfreight.com between November 2020 and March 5, 2021.

On another note, an agreement was reached in 2018 between Harbor Freight Tools and class action plaintiffs who claimed that the tool company falsely marketed “normal” prices for products that were greater than an advertised “sale” price, even though the item was never offered at the higher, initial price.
