A patient of St. Joseph’s/Candler is filing a class action lawsuit contending that they and countless others got their highly sensitive personal information exposed in a massive data breach incident that was company’s fault.
St. Joseph’s/Candler Patient Sues Company After Falling Victim To Data Breach Scandal
Heather Erica Betz, the lead complainant in the St. Joseph’s/Candler Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit, is accusing his healthcare network St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System, of being negligent in protecting his and other patients’ private data.
Betz further adds that the defendant healthcare network has failed to prop up the necessary security infrastructures and measures to strengthen their database’s protection against unauthorized attacks.
The data breach incident that has devastated St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System took place in late 2020. A ransomware attack, the said data breach allegedly remained undetected until the middle of June 2021.
It is said that more than a million customers whose private information is being handled by St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System have been affected. The types of information that are believed to have been compromised range from personal information to health and medical details.
According to Betz, he and others will now have to face the reality that they are more susceptible to fraud attacks perpetrated by evil agents due to the healthcare network’s alleged negligence.
St. Joseph’s/Candler Response To The Data Breach Incident
In a bid to appease their clients and address the situation, the company’s management has sent out letters to its patrons base.
Paul Hinchey, CEO of St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System, said that other kinds of information that could have also been illegally accessed by hackers include their customers’ names, birthdates, addresses, health insurance plans information, and the like.
Furthermore, the company has offered a one-year free subscription to an identity security program that would possibly help them protect themselves against possible identity theft and other similar crimes.
The St. Joseph’s/Candler Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit is looking to file charges against the Georgia-based healthcare network, including negligence and others.
