Neiman Marcus Says 4.6 Million Online Accounts Exposed In A May 2020 Data Breach
Neiman Marcus revealed the discovery of a data breach into its consumers’ online accounts system in May 2020, which exposed the personal and payment information of about 4.6 million shoppers.
Credit Card Details Exposed
According to the company’s announcement, the Neiman Marcus Data Breach affected consumers’ names, contact information, payment card numbers, and expiration dates, as well as Neiman Marcus virtual gift card numbers, and also usernames, passwords, and security questions and answers linked with Neiman Marcus online accounts.
The CVV numbers of exposed payment cards and the PINs of Neiman Marcus virtual gift cards were not accessed. Over 85% of the impacted payment and virtual gift cards are expired or invalid.
There are no active Neiman Marcus credit cards affected. Additionally, the company asserts that it believes no online consumer accounts linked with Bergdorf Goodman nor Horchow were affected.
Despite the fact that the data breach happened over a year ago, Neiman Marcus reports that it became aware of the matter in September.
Naiman Marcus Prompts Consumers to Reset Passwords
Neiman Marcus is urging consumers who have not replaced their online account passwords since May 2020 to do so.
Neiman Marcus began encouraging clients to reset their passwords immediately upon becoming aware of the situation.
Additionally, consumers should update their passwords for any other websites where they used a similar or identical password to their Neiman Marcus account.
Additionally, the company has established a breach-specific webpage and a contact center for anyone affected, which can be reached via (866) 571-9725 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. CST and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST on Saturday and Sunday. Callers must provide the engagement number B019206 in their message.
Along with monitoring their payment card activities, consumers should be on the lookout for phishing emails with a Neiman Marcus theme.
Neiman Marcus has alerted law enforcement of the intrusion and is conducting an investigation with the assistance of cybersecurity firm Mandiant.
