Accellion Sued For Allegedly Failing To Protect Itself From Data Breach Incidents That Put Thousands Of Individuals’ Privacy At Risk 

A class action lawsuit is suing Accellion for allegedly failing to protect its system from hackers’ attacks which led to countless people’s information being leaked and compromised. 

Victim Files Class Action Against Accellion, Inc. 

According to reports, Accellion is in trouble after complainant Amiresse DeJardins filed a class action lawsuit against the company after they experienced two consecutive data breach incidents late last year and in January 2021. 

She contended that Accellion has failed to properly set up the necessary security measures to ward off such attacks from being perpetrated against Accellion’s data systems. 

Accellion fell victim to a pair of hacking events wherein many of its clients, from private businesses, organizations to government offices, have gotten their employees’ personal data accessed without any prior authorization. 

The class action detailed that the hackers were able to carry out their misdeeds after exploiting the out-of-date system the company uses. 

Even though Accellion managed to deploy update patches after the first data breach incident, hackers were able to bypass them and were able to perform another hacking the following month.

A lot of individuals’ personal information got compromised as a result of the whole ordeal. In fact, reports suggest that cyber fraudsters were able to get a hold of a victim’s name, email address, Social Security number, driver’s license, bank account and other personal financial data, and other highly sensitive personal information. 

Complainant Argued Accellion Failures Harmed Them And Many Others 

Plaintiff DeJardins shared that she worked for Kroger for two years. Her employment company reportedly used Accellio’s services to collect, store, and manage their employees’ personal data, including DeJardin’s. However, she was shocked to find out that she was among the victims of the two recent data breach incidents that have hit Accellion. 

She added that she had taken the necessary steps to protect herself from hacking incidents well before the whole incident happened. Now, she shared that she feels worried that her personal information has been exposed without her approval. DeJardins followed up that she and others will face higher chances of online fraud attacks as a result. 

The Accellion Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit is looking to sue Accellion and hold the company accountable for their alleged failure to set up protective measures that could have prevented the data breach incidents from happening in the first place. In addition, it is looking to ask the court to order Accellion to pay for damages and for the victims’ identity protection.

The lead plaintiff is seeking to form and represent a Class consisting of similarly situated individuals whose private information has been compromised in the aftermath of the Accellion data hacking events.
