Peloton Tread+ Treadmill Death & Injuries – CPSC Warns To Avoid Using Peloton…

CPSC Issues A Safety Warning Against Peloton Treadmill

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a safety warning against Peloton Tread Plus Treadmill due to incident reports linked to its use.

The Safety Warning

The CPSC has issued a safety warning against the use of Peloton Tread+ on April 2021.

According to the organization, they have received several reports where the use of the machine caused harm to children.

The organization states that since 2018, they have received almost 39 incident reports related to the product. The reports asserted that children sustained injuries over Peloton Tread+. One incident report stated that a child died from using the machine.

CPSC advises consumers to keep the treadmill out of reach from pets and children. They also recommend customers to stop using the product.

CPSC Statement

The CPSC is a government agency that aims to promote the safety of consumer products. They manage almost 15,000 types of products.

The agency has requested Peloton to recall and stop selling their Tread+ Treadmill due to the number of incident reports received by the organization. They argue that Peloton has not yet acknowledged their request.

Tread+ is the top-of-the-line treadmill offered by Peloton, and it sells for around $4,300.

CPSC contends that the treadmill’s unique design can be dangerous to its users, including the belt mechanism and the height of the product.

Tread+ Safety Hazards

Senator Richard Blumenthal has also made a request for Peloton to recall the Tread+.

Meanwhile, Representative Jan Schawosky is urging CPSC to release their analysis regarding the product’s safety.

CPSC’s spokesperson contends that the Tread+’s belt design causes pets and children to be sucked under it. The organization’s report included a video showing how a child can get sucked under the belt.

The organization insists that while injuries obtained from treadmills often involve falling off the machine, damages from using Tread+ are more severe because they involve abrasions, broken bones, and burns. And one of the reports even involved a child’s death.

The CPSC argues that the incidents can occur even if the machine’s use was supervised by an adult, making it more dangerous.

Peloton Statement

Peloton attested that their machine is safe for use at home. They added that users should follow the safety instructions included in the device.

The company also argues that they have stated that the machine is not safe for pets and children and should be kept away.

The company urges users to strictly follow safety instructions and keep the safety key away from children’s reach so they wouldn’t be able to use the Tread+.

CPSC has responded to Peloton’s statement, declaring that not all customers who own a Tread+ have dedicated rooms where they can store the machine.

Safety Tips

While the machine has not yet been recalled, customers are advised to take precautions and follow the tips every company provides to ensure their safety when using a treadmill, whether they are Tread+ or not.

The machine should be kept away from children and pets as much as possible. When it is not in use, make sure that the machine is turned off and not easily accessible.

Customers are always recommended to use the safety key when one is available for their machine.

When setting up the treadmill, make sure that there is enough space around it. It is advised that there are at least 2 feet of space around the treadmill.

Aside from this, users are guided to not step on the machine’s belt when turning it on to avoid losing their balance when the machine suddenly moves.

They are also recommended always to look straight ahead when using the treadmill and stop the machine before completely stepping off the belt.

Lastly, customers should regularly check and maintain their treadmills to ensure that everything is working correctly.
