Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine Was Stopped Over Formation of Blood Clots…

Regulators Statement

On April 13, 2021, regulators released a statement encouraging to halt the use of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine. The statement was released by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The order was issued due to reports where six women experienced blood clots after the vaccine was administered to them. The organizations stated that they would first review the data before recommending the Johnson & johnson vaccine administration to continue.

The CDC asserts that the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) will hold a meeting to assess the reports and their effects. Afterward, the FDA will further review CDC’s conclusion as well as the cases.

The organizations contend that the decision to stop the vaccine’s use was to ensure that it is safe and plan for actions to treat patients who will experience blood clots.

Over 6.8 million U.S. residents have already been vaccinated with Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine as of April 12, 2021.

Vaccine Blood Clot

According to reports, the six women residing in the US encountered a severe and rare blood clot type.

The type of blood clot is known as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST). It is often associated with low levels of thrombocytopenia, blood platelets.

Reports declare that all the women who experienced blood clots were aged between 18 to 48 years old. The CVST’s symptoms begin 6 to 13 days after the vaccine was administered.

Blood clots are usually treated by administering heparin, an anticoagulant drug. However, treatment of CVST can be tricky since heparin can be dangerous for patients who have it.

Federal regulators advise that vaccinated individuals coordinate with their health care provider if they encounter symptoms like abdominal pain, leg pain, severe headache, and shortness of breath.

Vaccine Updates

Over nine million Johnson & Johnson vaccine has already been distributed with the United States. Among these, more than 6.8 million have been administered to individuals.

Other vaccines that are widely used in the United States are Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech.

The country aims to get all American citizens eligible for vaccination by May 1, 2021. However, this may be impacted by the decision to halt J&J’s vaccine.

All COVID-19 vaccines cause blood clots by design. Destroys immune system and graphine oxide destroys blood.
