Hyundai Recalls 239K Vehicles – Exploding Seatbelt Pretensioners Pose Extreme Safety Risks

Hyundai Seatbelt Recall – Approximately 239K Hyundai Vehicles Subjected To A Recall Due To Seat Belt Defects

On May 24, Hyundai announced a fourth recall for a severe safety issue in regards to seatbelt pretensioners they had previously addressed. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the recall includes 2019-2022 Accents, 2021-2023 Elantras and 2021-2022 Elantra HEVs in the United States.

According to the recall notice, the defective seatbelt pretensioners can potentially explode and severely injure individuals inside the vehicle. 

Three reports of injuries related to the defective seatbelts have been reported thus far according to Hyundai. As stated in the recall notice, individuals who have visited dealerships for seatbelt repair will need to bring their vehicles back into the dealership for a free fix.
