How To Increase WiFi Network?

The power of a reliable and great WiFi Network is very evident in this pandemic.

All the necessities that allow us to function – working from home, learning remotely, and socializing with friends through meetings, heavily relies on having a strong internet connection.

2020 has played a critical role in cementing WiFi’s value in people’s lives. Because of this, the WiFi Alliance, responsible for setting and maintaining industry standards, has made some changes to improve our internet connection in the coming years.

Some of these industry-standard enhancements include improvements to the latest routers catered to people living in crowded apartment buildings.

Another one is taking advantage of mesh router technology to ensure that every spot is covered and there are no dead spots in our homes.

The newest router models also include features such as built-in support to Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant. This will allow users to adjust router settings using voice commands seamlessly.

One of the fundamental changes we can look forward to this year is using the WiFi 6 standard. After being introduced in 2019, more router models now support and utilize WiFi 6 (802.11ax).

WiFi 6 is faster and performs better than the previous standard WiFi 5 (802.11ac).

The new standard also assures that it will support compatibility with existing devices.

New devices, like Apple’s iPhone 2 and Sony’s PlayStation 5, already support WiFi 6, and we expect to see other devices follow suit this year as this becomes a more prominent industry standard.

Early this January, a new variant of WiFi 6 was released – WiFi 6E. This variant pioneers support of the 6-gigahertz band.

The previous two standards are not able to offer this since they only support 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

In comparison, 6GHz offers to speed up to 2 gigabits per second, while prior bands support speeds up to 600 and 1,300 megabits per second.

The 6GHz band is especially useful for people living in heavily populated areas, such as apartment buildings.

This band provides broader and more channels, allowing devices to transmit data faster and with less intrusion.

This means that more devices can connect to the same network with less impact on its speed.

This technology is still new, and we are yet to see average-priced devices offering full support of the 6GHz band across the market.

Another technology we can utilize to improve internet connectivity is the mesh router.

This allows users to deploy multiple devices that link together to extend WiFi signals across your entire space, ensuring no dead spots throughout your home.

Previously, routers offering this technology were expensive. But since they are becoming more commonplace, many products are currently available at a more affordable price point.

Aside from boosting your internet signal, the latest router models come with many added features that can help optimize your network.

One of these is the quality-of-service feature (QoS), which allows users to configure devices prioritized by your network. This is especially helpful to secure work devices to get precedence over other devices.

There are also gaming routers available in the market, designed to ensure Xbox or PlayStation seldom slows down.

Some modern routers also support using two frequency bands at the same time.

This means you can have two separate networks – one 2.4Ghz (slower but longer range) and 5Ghz (faster and ideal for critical devices), and allot which devices will consume each one.
