Deceptive Marketing Alleged in Fairlife Vanilla Protein Shake Class Action Lawsuit
A class action lawsuit has been filed against Fairlife for deceiving consumers with its labeling on the package of its vanilla Core Power protein shake which claims it contains “natural flavors.”
This led consumers to believe that the product contained real natural vanilla, which is even more reinforced by the products package image which shows dried vanilla bean pods and vanilla flowers all over the Core Power protein shake bottles.

‘Natural Flavors’ in Vanilla Products
According to the class action lawsuit, the drink ingredients’ inventory refers to “natural flavors” as “compounds which enhance, resemble, simulate, reinforce and extend the ‘complex array of flavor notes and aromas’ of vanilla, ‘but are not derived from vanilla beans,’ and is therefore considered an artificial flavor.”
Furthermore, “the product’s front label does not state ‘contains some vanilla’ or ‘made with a drop of vanilla,’ but designates the characterizing flavor as ‘Vanilla’ above the term ‘Natural Flavors’.”
As one of the most popular and most expensive spices on the market, people “pay a premium” when it comes to “naturally flavored vanilla product” as Vanilla’s flavor attributes are so complicated they cannot be accurately duplicated.
The company, Fairlife, has been accused of knowing this and intentionally misleading consumers for profit which constitutes a violation of New York state consumer protection laws and negligent misrepresentation, breach of express and implied warranty, fraud, and unjust enrichment.
