Ecoxgear EcoBoulder Bluetooth Speakers Recalled, Batteries Burst

About 88,000 Ecoxgear EcoBoulder Bluetooth speakers are being recalled because the speaker’s battery can overcharge and burst.

The speakers were sold at Costco stores nationwide (from October 2016 to January 2017), Academy Sports, Cabela’s, Home Depot and Best Buy stores nationwide and online at (from January through December 2018) and retailed for about $180.

The products included in the recall are Ecoxgear EcoBoulder Bluetooth speakers in black with one of five accent colors. Colors, model numbers and UPC codes are:

  • orange (GDI-EXBM900, UPC 819127010331)
  • black (GDI-EXBM901, UPC 819127010348)
  • yellow (GDI-EXBM904, UPC 819127011796)
  • red (GDI-EXBM907, UPC 819127011802)
  • blue (GDI-EXBM913, UPC 819127011819).

    Note that after replacing the battery from the recall, the speaker only gets about half as loud as it used too with the original battery. As such, I would NOT buy this speaker again, and I am not longer happy with it. I understand the need for the recall, but it is a shame as I really liked this speaker and was going to buy a 2nd one because you could pair them and run 2 at the same time.
