With Americans consuming more coffee than they have in six years, you may very well fall into the category of the 64% of people in the U.S. who enjoy their daily cup of joe.

However, while those of us who enjoy espresso are usually satiated by one shot at a time for hours on end, have you really ever had just one ounce of coffee to satisfy your craving?

This means that when it comes to regular consumption, 1 cup/8 ounces of regular coffee that contains around 95 mg of caffeine usually competes with that 1 shot of espresso that still stands at 63 mg.

Nuances Play a Big Part

The supplementary sugars and dairy that you may add into your coffee may have additional effects on your diet. On the other hand, with a simple shot of espresso, all that you enjoy is pure, unadulterated java, which could also have other benefits.

According to recent studies, consuming four to five shots of espresso on a daily basis could actually have beneficial effects on one’s health. The 400 mg daily caffeine intake limit suggested by the FDA is also in line here, since the daily amount of caffeine through this recommendation denotes to around 252 mg to 315 mg.

But if you think of having four to five cups of coffee on the line of this recommendation, then one may be likely to push the limits, as this dances dangerously close and then over with its 380 mg to 475 mg. Again, this is because whenever we’re having coffee, just one ounce is never enough.

On the other hand, espresso with its strong taste and that certain “kick,” packs a punch within a single shot, which is usually more than enough to get the most habitual of caffeine consumers going about their daily affairs.

Taste is a Big Decision Making Factor

With that being said, the certain and distinct tastes of both beverages and their variations also play a large part in having one choose between them. If you like the milder taste of coffee, then leaning toward that option would only be natural; but if your taste palate enjoys a stronger flavor, then nothing beats that certain bitterness of espresso that is its signature.
