On Monday, Amazon said it plans to open its first new brand of grocery stores in California next year. This is the company’s big push into becoming a bigger food empire than its competitors.
Amazon confirmed to CNET on Monday, “Amazon is opening a grocery store in Woodland Hills in 2020.” This confirmation came soon after the company published four new jobs postings for the Woodland Hills neighborhood, amping up suspicions that something was coming to that area of Los Angeles.
The store will be dramatically different from Whole Food Markets, which is Amazon-owned, according to the company. They didn’t report to CNET whether or not any more of these types of stores will be opened elsewhere in L.A. or across the country, what the pricing will be like or what the intended brand name is. Just that the Woodland Hills market is being billed as “Amazon’s first grocery store,” it may bear the Amazon brand name and could possibly expand beyond this initial opening to multiple sites.
Stay tuned. This story is ever-evolving and we will keep you updated.
