A Rebuttal on Intermittent Fasting – A Personal Account

Recently, we shared an article talking about the drawbacks and benefits of Intermittent Fasting. A reader, Jessie Ong, however, shared different views on the subject, and provided us with a wonderful rebuttal, speaking on his experiences with Intermittent Fasting.

Jessie is a Community Health Activist who recently celebrated the eleventh year anniversary of his kidney transplant (donated by his daughter). Shortly thereafter, Jessie was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Not wanting to go through all of the miserable side effects of taking insulin, he looked for a better, easier way. He found an alternative to taking insulin with Intermittent Fasting. Now, he chooses to share this information to get others on the path to amazing weight loss and type 2 diabetes reversal through his website IFiwerethin.com.

Mr. Ong provided us with the following rebuttal:

I recently read an article titled, “The Truth About Intermittent Fasting for Weight Loss.” The problem is there was almost no truth to any of this article.

The very first sentence compares fasting to calorie restriction. Calories were first created by Nicolas Clément in 1825 in regards to the train’s steam engine. Calories have almost nothing to do with our diets. The whole discussion of “calories in” and “calories out” has been a miserable failure leading to the epidemics of obesity and type 2 diabetes. The CRaP (Calorie Restriction as Primary) diets…Just, Don’t, Work! The reason they don’t work…they lower our metabolism. Fasting doesn’t! The article goes on to mention several fasting protocols that people have made up. Rules of fasting that are made up for the rest of us to follow. They all work, but fasting is so much more powerful than these protocols dictate, so much more flexible.

The last sentence calls fasting for seven days “extreme.” In the mid 1960’s, a Scotsman, who weighed 452 pounds, fasted for 382 days until he weighed 180 pounds. With no side effects. Way to go Angus Barbieri!

The next paragraph answers the question, “Does Intermittent Fasting Work?” I really question the results of the University of Illinois’ study. Who sponsored this study and what was the sponsor’s desired outcome. Because, let me tell you folks, if you don’t eat, you will lose weight! Just ask Angus.

The next paragraph talks about the upside of fasting. Fasting is becoming more and more popular, with new articles coming out every day and thousands of people having great success. The reason fasting has become so popular is because it works! What I have noticed about so many of the articles about fasting, is they don’t say “why” fasting works. It works because it lowers our fat storage hormone…insulin. Persistent high levels of insulin, working so hard to keep toxic sugar (glucose) out of our blood, makes our bodies become insulin resistant. Insulin resistance leads to obesity. Too much insulin resistance is type 2 diabetes. Too much insulin resistance is responsible for high blood pressure, heart attacks, stroke, Alzheimer’s, and all the other metabolic issues that are killing us. How do I know that fasting works? In a very short time, I used fasting to lose 30 pounds and cure my type 2 diabetes. My doctor, just last week, confirmed something I already knew. She said, “You are no longer diabetic.” I continue to use fasting to stay healthy. So, does it work? Yea, it works! If one would research this subject, they would find the upsides are almost without end. If everyone would take up fasting as a lifestyle, obesity would be gone…type 2 diabetes would be gone…Alzheimer’s would be gone…high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, and even most cancers would be gone!

In 2017, Yoshinori Ohsumi won a Nobel Prize for his research into autophagy. Autophagy is the way the cells in our bodies take garbage like damaged cells, misfolded proteins and pathogens and recycle them. The recycler in our cells is call lysosome. It takes these damaged parts and turns them into free fatty acids and amino acids. These acids are used for cell remodeling and fuel. Very powerful. But, here is the thing, autophagy needs fasting to be activated. Read about autophagy, you will see that I am right… There really is no downside to fasting as the article suggests. This includes exercise. Search YouTube for personal trainers, like Brandon Carter. They love working out at the end of a fast while they are in fat burning mode and they teach fasting to their clients. If a person uses fasting to get off their sugar addiction, they may feel a little off. If they take a little sea salt in a beverage or just lick it off their hand, they will feel better almost immediately. If they really feel unwell, they should stop fasting and then try again soon. It is true, fasting is not for everyone…but it is amazingly effective for almost everyone.

Ever heard the phrase, “Follow the money?” Fasting is free. As a matter of fact, regular fasting can save you $300 to $600 a month. Here is the kicker, who makes money if you truly learn and embrace fasting? Big Pharma doesn’t, you won’t need their drugs. Big Food doesn’t, you won’t eat their refined carbohydrates and food with high fructose corn syrup. Even the medical communities’ jobs are at stake. If all these diseases magically disappear because we now know why we are fat and sick, where will this money go. Personally, I want my money in my pocket, where my healthy body can go out and spend it, happily!
