Are You A Member of the Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ (SEIU)?

SEIU Local 32BJ recently announced that personally identifiable information and protected health information of more than 230,000 patients were exposed in a data breach. SEIU Local 32BJ disclosed in February 2022 that highly sensitive personal information belonging to union members was accessed by unauthorized individuals prior in October 2021. The information accessed by the hackers in the data breach includes, but is not limited to, first and last names, addresses, and Social Security numbers. SEIU Local 32BJ acknowledged that the hackers were able to exfiltrate the patients’ highly sensitive personal information.

The exposure of personally identifiable information, especially names and Social Security numbers, poses a significant risk of identity theft, such as criminals opening financial accounts, taking out loans, filing fraudulent tax returns, and obtaining government services in the victim’s name. According to a recent FTC survey, the total cost of identity theft is nearly $50 billion per year, with victims losing an average of nearly $5,000 from the misuse of their personal and financial information.

If you are a member of SEIU Local 32BJ and you received a letter notifying you of the data breach, or you believe that your personal information was exposed in the data breach, you may be entitled to participate in a class action.
