Gerber Toxic Baby Food Class Action Lawsuit – Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead, and Mercury!

Gerber Was Sued For Toxic Baby Food Claims

Gerber was charged with multiple class action lawsuits alleging that the company’s baby food products contain toxic substances.

Lawsuits Against Gerber

Multiple class action lawsuits were filed against baby food manufacturer, Gerber, alleging that their products contain heavy metals with severe health impacts.

The lawsuits claim that the company has advertised its products as non-toxic and safe for consumption, especially for infants and toddlers who are their target market.

However, plaintiffs of the filed lawsuits argue that high levels of toxic heavy metals were found in Gerber’s baby foods.

The complainants attest that Gerber has marketed its products falsely. They aim to require the company to update its product packaging and include a complete and accurate list of its products’ ingredients.

The plaintiffs also are seeking compensation from Gerber for all of the damages that their products have caused.

Products Covered

The following products manufactured by Gerber were included in the lawsuits alleging that they contain toxic heavy metals:

  • For Toddlers
    • Mashed Potatoes & Gravy with Roasted Chicken Meal

Heavy Metals

Plaintiffs argue that significant levels of toxic heavy metals were found in Gerber’s baby food products, including arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury.

These heavy metals are known to have dangerous health risks like neurological and brain impact. This is particularly dangerous to the developing brain of infants.

The Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Toxic Substances Disease Registry (ATSDR) has identified arsenic as one of the most dangerous substances that can significantly impact health, which includes damage to the cognitive development and nervous system.

According to standards, only 10 ppb of inorganic arsenic is acceptable as safe for consumption.

However, the arsenic found in baby food products was estimated to reach 90 ppb.

Lead is identified as the next most dangerous substance by ATSDR, second to arsenic.

It was reported that exposure to lead could cause delayed puberty, behavioral issues, and a decrease in cognitive development.

Various organizations have set the lead limit to 5-20 ppb. Nonetheless, the level that was found in Gerber’s baby food products was up to 48 ppb.

The ATSDR identified cadmium as 7th among the most dangerous substances.

The limit set for cadmium was 5-20 ppb. The amount that was found in Gerber’s products was up to a maximum of 87 ppb.

Mercury is the third most dangerous substance listed by ATSDR.

The substance was linked to children with high autistic behavior. The acceptable limit set for mercury is 2ppb.

According to reports, Gerber does not test their products to check for the presence of mercury.

Aside from the ATSDR, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have also recognized the four substances as dangerous to human health.
