Cheddar and Sour Cream Ridges Class Action Lawsuit
A Cheddar and Sour Cream Ridges Class Action Lawsuit has hit the scene, alleging that Wise Foods has been deceptively promoting their Ridges Cheddar and Sour Cream Flavored Chips! Yes! Those chips!
The brand has been misleading consumers by failing to disclose, on their chips’ packaging, that the product’s cheddar flavor is artificially derived.
Are you a Wise consumer who feels ripped off by these allegations? If so, feel free to contact us today about the Wise Foods Class Action:
Echoing a suit filed against Frito-Lay over its Cheddar & Sour Cream Ruffles in early March, this case explains that cheddar cheese is known for its “sharp pungent flavor” while retaining a “butter and milk taste.”
The product consists of compounds associated with butter flavor, which, in turn, boosts the cheddar cheese flavor.
Consumers have claimed, however, that the chip’s front label is said to be misleading as it does not disclose that the flavor comes from artificial components and not directly from cheddar cheese and sour cream.

The Nitty-Gritty on the Wise Foods Class Action
The Wise Foods Class Action claims that “The product’s label makes direct representations with respect to one of its “distinguishable characterizing flavors,” cheddar cheese, through the statement: “Cheddar & Sour Cream.”
The front label also contains the term “flavored,” which tells consumers that the product’s flavor does not solely come from these cheddar cheese and sour cream ingredients.
However, the front label fails to inform consumers that the product contains artificial flavor which “simulates, resembles or reinforces the characterizing flavor.” The ingredient list, though, does disclose artificial flavor as part of the “Yeast Extract with Natural and Artificial Flavor,” on its ingredient list. Good on ya, Wise.
Based on flavor composition analysis of the product, however, an artificial flavor consists of compounds associated with butter flavor.
The flavor of butter is known for enhancing and boosting the flavor of cheddar cheese, making it misleading to not disclose the presence of artificial flavor on the Product’s front label, i.e., “Artificially Flavored” or “Naturally and Artificially Flavored.”
