This month, May 2018, a consumer class action lawsuit was filed against Barlean’s Greens. The Barlean’s Green Class Action Lawsuit alleges that the company deceptively advertised its Greens Supplement Powders. The complaint goes on to state that Barlean’s misleadingly advertises its product as a vegan superfood, which provides numerous health benefits (like cleansing organs and tissues, improving digestion, detoxifying, and promoting a healthy immune system). According to plaintiffs, however, these claims may not be substantiated, and therefore violate the DSHEA (i.e. the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994). Additionally, the plaintiffs in the Barlean’s Greens lawsuit say that Barlean’s touts that the supplement provides health benefits without disclosing that the powders contain more lead than is allowed under California law, which is harmful to health, which apparently is a thing among the fitness supplement industry.
The Barlean’s Greens lawsuit complaint goes on to state that the case arises out of Defendant’s unlawful merchandising practices with respect to the Barlean’s Greens Supplement Powders. Barlean’s labels suggest and advertise as such, that these green powders are Nature’s perfect superfood, a pathway to a better life, while also claiming that it contains Antioxidant Powder. Additionally, the complaint suggests that Barlean’s labels show the product as touting that it is a Premium Superfood created to: Support cleansing of organs and tissues; Super-Boost your health and ENERGY; Help improve digestion; Aid the body’s natural detoxification, and; Promote a healthy immune system, along with being superfoods designed to invigorate and nourish both your mind and body.
