Apple In Italy Faces $60 Million+ Lawsuit Over iPhone’s Battery Life

Class Action Lawsuit Against Apple in Italy Due To iPhone Battery Life

When you see the Apple logo, almost everyone knows any device under that logo will surely be of quality. But Apple has received a whopping €60 million – $73 million class action lawsuit filed in Italy because of their iPhone’s battery life.

Allegations point to Apple engaging in the planned obsolescence of some iPhone 6 that were sold in Italy between 2014 and 2020.

The class action was filed by a European consumer advocacy group and was prompted after a few legal actions over throttling, including a few multimillion-dollar settlements.

What Else To Know About The Case

Several complaints had come up when iPhones users were updating their older phones to iOS 10.2.1 in 2016. Consumers pointed to the iPhone 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, and 7 Plus slowing considerably after upgrading to iOS 10.2.1.

Several bloggers even proposed that Apple was pushing customers who have older phones to buy the iPhone’s newest version.

In a press release given in December 2017, Apple claimed that they would never intend to shorten the life of any Apple product or even lower the user experience just to drive up sales.

But the company was still hit with lawsuits not just in the US but internationally as well.

The lawsuits allege the updates harmed the battery life of the older version iPhones, and the processor speed of the phones slowed.

According to the case, Apple did not inform the consumers and tried to cover it up with an upgrade.

There was a lawsuit where Apple settled for $500 million, and they also paid $113 million to 33 states and the District of Columbia over similar claims.

The European consumer advocacy group stated it will pursue the lawsuits concerning the iPhones’ battery life, and one may soon be filed in Portugal.
