What to Know About the Viega ProPress Copper Fittings Class Action Lawsuit
Viega was sued for allegedly entering into illegal agreements with distributors that prohibited the latter from selling copper press fittings manufactured by competitors, thereby violating antitrust laws.
According to the class action lawsuit, Viega charged the distributors with a higher wholesale price for Viega ProPress copper fittings if the latter did sell competitor products.
Consumers were then charged more for Viega ProPress copper fittings or were denied competitive options from other brands as a result.

Details of the Viega ProPress Settlement
Viega denies any wrongdoing under antitrust laws but has agreed to pay class members with a settlement of $10 million and a $5 million class action rebate fund to settle the claims against them.
The settlement benefits consumers who purchased Viega ProPress copper fittings from a wholesale distributor between January 29, 2015, and September 18, 2020. Those who purchased Viega ProPress fittings directly from the manufacturer are not included in the settlement.
Consumers can expect a potential award distributed as follows:
- Cash refunds amounting to up to 25% and/or future rebates of up to $500.
- A $10 million settlement fund given to consumers who made purchases of Viega ProPress copper fittings between January 1, 2015, and September 18, 2020. From this fund, consumers will be eligible to recover refunds of up to 25% of their total eligible purchases.
- A $5 million class action rebate program for eligible future payments made between December 18, 2020, and December 31, 2021. Under this program, Class Members can submit claims for payments of up to $500 each.
Valid claim forms must be submitted by December 15, 2020, accompanied by proof of purchase which can include distributor or wholesaler invoices, receipts, or other proof of purchase provided by a distributor or wholesaler. Documentation is required which must specify the purchase of qualifying Viega ProPress copper press fittings, the purchaser, date of purchase during the Class Period, the item/product purchased and price, the supplier, and proof of payment.
For future cash class action rebates, valid claim forms must be submitted by March 1, 2022.
The deadline for exclusion or objection is set on November 30, 2020, while the final hearing is scheduled on December 17, 2020.
