Toyota Reaches $20 Million Settlement Agreement Resolving Prius Stalling Claims
Toyota has reached a lawsuit settlement agreement with car owners who complained about the stalling of their 2010 to 2014 Prius vehicles.
According to the preliminary approval’s motion, the $20 million Toyota Prius Stalling Settlement includes reimbursements for the repair and/or replacement of defective car parts, as well as related towing and rental car fees.
Toyota’s warranty for affected vehicles will also be extended for an additional 20 years from the date of purchase and give free towing and rental services for individuals still in need of repairs or replacements.
Moreover, the proposed Toyota Prius Stalling Settlement agreement provides real, substantial advantages to class members in a simple, straightforward manner, without imposing undue burdens on class members in claiming or obtaining those benefits.
Each material issue was thoroughly examined and discussed prior to being included in the settlement agreement. The time and effort, plus the resources expended on those efforts, paid off, Prius owners stated.
Toyota maintains its innocence and any associated legal liability despite the settlement agreement.

In a consolidated complaint lodged in 2018, plaintiffs claimed that Toyota purposefully hid stalling issues in its 2010 to 2014 Prius vehicles.
According to the Toyota Prius Stalling Class Action, the stalling difficulties were caused by malfunctioning inverter components, which caused the vehicles to stall when moving at a high rate of speed.
Plaintiffs contended that the issue also affected the Priuses’ fuel efficiency, which was a major selling point for many vehicle purchasers.
Toyota’s attempt to have the claims arbitrated was unsuccessful, resulting in settlement negotiations until the agreement was reached.
