It was September 2017th when Equifax confirmed that a data breach compromised the personal information of 147 million people leading to the Equifax Data Breach Settlement. The deadline for the Equifax settlement was last January 22, 2020. If you’re one of these victims and have suffered identity theft or fraud related to the breach, you can still file a claim for expenses you incur between January 23, 2020, and January 22, 2024.
The expenses you’re entitled to claim are as follows:
- Losses from unauthorized charges to your accounts
- Professional fees you shouldered (i.e., accountants or attorneys) to recover from identity theft.
- Miscellaneous expenses you paid while dealing with identity theft (i.e., notary fees, document shipping fees, postage, mileage, and phone charges.)
Furthermore, if you are eligible for the class action lawsuit, you can file a claim for the hours you spent recovering from the stress of identity theft or fraud between January 23, 2020, and January 22, 2024. You can get paid up to $25 per hour for up to 20 hours.
