Bimbo Bakeries Enters Into Settlement Agreement To End Allegations That It Violated Illinois’ BIPA
Bimbo Bakeries has entered into a $295,000 settlement agreement with its workers to end a class action case claiming the company violated Illinois Biometric Privacy Act or BIPA.
Lisa Peatry v. Bimbo Bakeries USA, Inc.
Filed in early 2019 by complainant Lisa Peatry, the Bimbo Bakeries BIPA Class Action Lawsuit contended that Bimbo Bakeries did not religiously follow the safety provisions of the state of Illinois’ biometric privacy law when it required its employees to use a fingerprint-based timekeeping system while they were working in one of the company’s plants.
Listed below are some of the key details you need to know about the Bimbo Bakeries BIPA Settlement 2021 agreement.
- Those who are considered eligible for the settlement are Bimbo Bakeries employees whose biometric data were collected, stored, and used by the company at its Cicero, Illinois location between the dates of the 9th of February 2018 and the 8th of May 2018;
- It is believed that around 232 qualified workers can join the settlement proceedings;
- Each claimant can receive around $750 as a rebate payment.
Although the two parties have already entered into an agreement, Bimbo Bakeries and Peatry’s party both argued that there are more legal hurdles to surmount if each one wanted to achieve their legal goals in the case.
